Creative thinking with clothes at Oxfam

posted by admin in Uncategorized

If there’s one place that you can always rely on for having decent second, third or fourth-hand clothes, it’s charity giant Oxfam — probably the greatest organisation in the world when it comes to shifting goods which aren’t new. Every time I go to my local one I’m astounded by the diversity on offer there — there is literally every kind of clothing on offer, including things which I have never seen anywhere else — and not once have I left that shop without at least one item (in fact, they should probably put a weight limit on their bags because it would be a very good deterrent for me!).

One thing which I once picked up – and this is no word of a lie – is an old vintage wedding suit . I made a killing with that beauty. Sold it to a groom-to-be for an amazing price which I will not divulge here (but I will say that it was plenty enough to buy, say, a decent MP3 player…). Nowhere other than Oxfam, believe me…

So the fact of the matter is, if you haven’t take advantage of the ‘Fam yet for clothes, you need to. For the following very good reasons.

If you really know your vintage clothes then you will also be at a distinct advantage over everyone else

  1. You can buy cheap clothes and cut them up and have a great outfit in no time – an outfit that is completely original I might add!

  2. You can often find really high-class items in Oxfam. If you really know your vintage clothes then you will also be at a distinct advantage over everyone else; what’s not to like there?

  3. Oxfam have a REALLY good returns policy. That’s to say that if you suddenly decide that you don’t want to keep a certain item, they are highly unlikely to be be a pain about you taking it back.

  4. Oxfam only put out decent clothes, unlike some lesser charity shops which I will not mention here.

  5. The staff in Oxfam won’t follow you around as if you’re a dangerous shoplifter never to be trusted!

  6. The layout of most Oxfam shops changes from week to week, meaning that you are likely to uncover a hidden gem each and every time you visit the shop!

And last but not least, the best reason of all to support Oxfam is they really are a charity who help those in the need. If that isn’t a good enough reason on its own then I don’t know what is.

Egg art

posted by admin in Uncategorized

When I was a child, I loved painting. I mean, I still love painting now as much as I ever did, but back then there was something really special and fresh and new about it. I put this down to it being so fresh and special and new. And the fact I was very young and was yet to learn the many ways of the world. This meant that I loved everything, from the sweet wrapper I might find on the pavement to the long-dead cat I might find behind my neighbour’s car (she really shouldn’t have been allowed a cat because this was how they always seemed to end up).

One thing which was a problem for my parents was this: I would paint on anything and everything. I would paint on walls, on the wood floor after rolling the carpet up, and even on any food that happened to be lying around. One of my major stomping grounds was the vegetable cupboard. One by one, every vegetable became a masterpiece in its own right.

But my most favourite of all the things to paint on, by far, were the eggs. Mainly because I loved seeing the look on my mother’s face after she opened the egg-box up and saw that I had painted all the eggs to look like all the American presidents!

the perfect thing for such creative endeavours. It’s round like someone’s face

My point? You really should try it. Even if you love geeky things like checkout netroot for IT support – I have a friend who is well into IT and he loves the dorky HTML language – you should unleash your creative side on an egg and give it a go. After all, an egg is the perfect thing for such creative endeavours. It’s round like someone’s face, and it’s small and you can even smash it open and eat the contents.

That’s right, you can smash someone’s head open and eat their brains, yeah, woooo!

Here are a few tips for egg art:

  1. Free-range-egg-art is best, of course.

  2. You don’t have to use paint: in fact, ink is better because it’s easier to draw on eggs than paint on them, as a pen enables you much more control.

  3. Stand the egg in an egg box and it’ll be easier to create your exceptional masterpiece.

  4. Why not give a hand-crafted egg as a gift? These are the perfect and highly unusual present that many friends will have been waiting a lifetime for…don’t make them wait a minute longer!
